Tori at 20 months

Tori, 4 Months Old

Tori was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. We did not know about this until 3 days after her birth. We brought Tori home and she began to breathe fast so we took her to the hospital. She was then taken to a slightly larger hospital, and then flown to Wichita. From Wichita, where she was diagnosed with HLHS, we flew to Michigan.

Tori had the Norwood procedure done on the 24th of September in Michigan. She did well and we came home on October 5. Tori is doing well and the plan is to have the second surgery, which is the hemi-Fontan, in February.

Tori is our only girl. We have two boys ages 12 and 3. Tori is also our last child. We do not plan to have any more children. We pray everyday that God will be with Tori and all the other children in the world.

April 2002 Update

Tori had her second surgery at the University of Michigan on January 30th, 2002. She was 4 and half months old. The surgery went well and we were dismissed a week later. We were then readmitted the next day and Tori's blood cultures were positive so they had to start her on antibiotics. Then we had to wait till the cultures came back negative after seventy two hours and then they were able to put and IV in called a PICC line so that we could come home and give her IV antibiotics for 6 weeks.

Tori is now almost 7 months old and is doing well. She no longer has any tubes and she is very happy. God bless to all.

July 2003 Update

Tori had her Fontan surgery done on June 24, 2003 at the University of Michigan. She was only in ICU overnight then they moved her out to general care. She had a few ups and downs but we were dismissed on July 7th. We feel we are very fortunate we didn't have to stay very long. Tori is acting like her normal self and I believe she is now getting into her terrible two's. We thank God everyday for the doctors and nurses at the U of M. We will continue to pray everyday for our daughter and all the other children and their parents in the world.

December 2005 Update

Tori turned 4 on Sept. 15th. She is doing very well and is only on Captopril and Aspirin. She is doing everything a 4 year old does, (including throwing huge fits). She still does not eat very well and continues to drink Pediasure. She usually drinks about 3 cans a day. She has started preschool and she is really enjoying it. We are very fortunate that she has been so healthy. God Bless.
