Skyler Aaron Michael

HLHS, Hybrid stage 2

Tough Guy
Skyler was born on 4.10.09 at 10:35 AM. He weighed 8lbs 4 1/2 oz and was 20 1/2 inches long. On the day we were scheduled to get discharged, the pediatrician came in to do a check up and discovered that Skyler had a heart murmur.

He was then taken to the Special Care Nursery, where the cardiologist came in and performed an Echocardiogram (an ultrasound of his heart). The echo showed that Skyler has Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. The left side of his heart is half the size it should be, causing the right side to do all the work.

A few hours later we were transferred to Children's Hospital in Detroit.

He has had the first two procedures for the Hybrid; with the last to come in about 1-1/2 years.

— Christina, Skyler's Mother (Clinton Township, MI)
