MaryLou was diagnosed with severe congenital mitral stenosis at 13 weeks of age. Faced with the decision between surgery or cardiac catheterization, we decided on the latter which in her case has been extremely successful.
MaryLou had her first echo exam in over a year today, and her doctors are amazed by her status. She continues to be symptom-free and her heart, EXCEPT for her mitral valve, is functionally perfectly.
MaryLou turned 3 years old in February and she enjoys ballet, going to the beach, riding her tricycle and paying with her friends.
April, 2005 Update
MaryLou had her annual cardiac exam this morning, and continues to be doing very well. The catheterization she had at 5 mo. has given us more success than we ever dreamed possible. She is a happy, energetic, and strong-willed 4-year old who enjoys dancing and singing and playing with her 2 year old little sister, Olivia.
