Mary Elizabeth

HLHS, Glenn Shunt

Mary Elizabeth

Mary Elizabeth was born August 1, 2005 with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. She was born at Brigham and women?s hospital. Within minutes she was at Children?s Hospital Boston. I am from Mississippi and my daughter was diagnosed with HLHS at 20 weeks gestation.

We are back in Mississippi now after two open heart surgeries. Mary Elizabeth had her Norwood on August 5,2005 which went great we spent 23 days in the hospital, and she picked up eating right away. I was unable to go back to Mississippi due to Hurricane Katrina, so I spent the 6 months leading up to the glen in Boston, MA.

So on January 19, 2006 M.E. had her Glenn. She was only in the hospital for five days this time. She is doing great. She weighs 18 pounds and still doesn?t have feed issues. So hopefully she will continue on her great path.

— Violet, Mary Elizabeth's mother (Gulfport, Ms)
