Logan

HLHS, Norwood, Glenn, Transplant

Logan
We found out Logan had HLHS at our 20 week ultrasound and were referred to Texas Children's Hospital in Houston, TX. Our state did not have the ability to treat him. We met with cardiologists in Houston and were presented two options: 1. Compassionate care or 2. the 3 stage surgeries. We chose the surgeries and relocated to Houston at 36 weeks pregnant.

Logan was born at 39 weeks and was very healthy from the start! After tests revealed he was otherwise healthy, we had a surgery date 2 days away. He was 2 days old for his Norwood surgery and sailed through recovery. We were out of the hospital in 18 days! (Which is unheard of - usually eating is a problem, but it is one problem we've avoided.)

The goal for his Glenn was to hit 15 pounds by 3.5 months old. In March 2009 we were exactly 15 pounds and his Glenn procedure was a huge success as well. In a little over one week we were allowed to return to Oklahoma.

We visited Houston every 6 months and our local cardiologist quarterly until May 2010. In May we arrived for a routine check up in Houston and discovered Logan was in severe heart failure. We were shocked, as there were very few outward symptoms!

We are now living in Houston again while waiting for a heart transplant.
