Kordie Mae

Total pulmonary valve insufficiency

Kordie Mae
My second pregnancy was picture perfect, delivery was natural, went well. Her Apgar score was a ten, all was wonderful. Five short hours later we were on our way to Dallas because we were told that something was fatally wrong with her heart. The cardiologist in Dallas told us that her pulmonary valve was 89% stenosed, and she was critical. He called it critical pulmonary valve stenosis. A cardiac cath was done, which showed a major malformation in her pulmonary valve. It was actually shaped like an hour glass.

So, Kordie underwent a pulmonary valvectomy with transannular patch when she was ten days old. Since then, she has not had any problems. Her last follow up was in April of 2010 and she was found to have total pulmonary valve insufficiency with moderate right ventricular enlargement. We were told that she will have a replacement in 3-5 years, so until then, I will pray everyday for her.

She is so lively and active, if it weren't for the scar down her chest or the shortness of breath, you would never know anything was wrong with her.

— Jessika, Kordie Mae's Mommy (East Texas)
