HLHS

Jasmine Mariah

I am approximately 26 weeks pregnant and my baby girl has been diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. I am to have my labor induced at 38 weeks so the doctors will be ready for her. I have one other little girl who is 20 months and has no heart or health issues. Everyday so far is a struggle for me not knowing what will happen. I am anxiously awaiting Jasmine's birth so we can get her 1st surgery behind us, which she will have done when 1 week old at St. Josephs Children's Hospital in Tampa, Florida.

This was all a shock to everyone as no one in either my side or my husbands side has any history of a heart defect. I will update more information once I get closer to her due date or after she is born.

June 2007 Update

Jasmine is home now from her first surgery. She is 3 months old and we expect her 2nd surgery to be sometime between late August to early September. She was in the hospital for about 6 weeks.

Jasmine came home with no feeding tube and is eating well. We are all amazed by her progress and feel she will do very well with the surgeries to come. Jasmine acts like our two year-old daughter did at her age. So the only way you know there was anything wrong is to see her scar. It amazing what your body and doctors can do.

We are anxiously awaiting her second surgery so we can relax a little. Its all a little overwhelming at times. Even though she is doing great we still worry a lot about her.
