Jared John

VSD, Tricuspid valve stenosis, Transposition

Jared and his brother

Jared was born on April 25, 2006 weighing 9.9 pounds, and 21 inches in length. Mom delivered in 3 hours! We had no idea that Jared was born with so many heart problems until the end of the day. Our lives changed in one day forever. Yet, we love him, and he is so special to us. He has a 3 year old brother to love him along with mom and dad. We have been lucky to bring him home for may be 3-4 months. UVA has been evaluating him (Dr. Bradford McQuilkin, and Dr. Ben Peeler, aka "the baby doctor") and he will go for the Glenn and Fontan procedure. He has VSD, transposition, and tricuspid valve stenosis. He is a strong boy, and we know he will always be with us.

October 2006 Update

Jared avoided having a shunt and had his Glenn surgery August 2nd. The surgery was a success. Jared bounced back right away and even ate the same night after surgery. He left the hospital in five days.

Now at home he is doing great and is growing big.  He is in the 97% percent for height and weight and is fitting into 12 month clothes although he is only 6 months old. Jared is a very happy boy and smiles all the time. He loves to eat. Jared loves to play peek-a-boo and giggles a lot. He loves to watch his big brother. We are very fortunate and blessed by God.

— Joe, Jared's father (Richmond, VA)
