Haven Leigh

HLHS, Norwood

Haven is the one in the diaper

In September of 2006 while Haven Leigh was nearly 6 months old in the womb, she was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS). Thanks to our modern technology, early echocardiograms were able to prepare Haven's parents for Haven's condition.

As long as Haven was in the womb, she was being supported by mom and was fine, albeit with an undeveloped half-a-heart.

For the next three months we spent as much time as we could talking to her, praying for her, and preparing for whatever would happen, knowing that whatever happened at birth God would be our portion and Haven would be in good hands.

As it came to be, Haven was born at 12:12am successfully, only 2 hours after mom's water broke without inducement hormones. She was 8 lbs 5oz. and the doctors immediately placed her on monitors.

By God's grace, Haven was born strong, despite her condition, and mom and dad were able to hold her, feed her, and love her for the next week. Since she was doing so well, the doctors scheduled her Norwood procedure.

She had her Norwood 4 days after she was born (12/15) and she is now recovering. She is steadily stabilizing and her heart is getting stronger. However, she is currently dealing with some acute kidney failure as a result of her surgery.

Meanwhile, we thank God and C.H.I.N. that we are able to share this story to others and that it may be a comfort or a means of sympathy for others.

"My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever." - Psalms 73:26
