Truncus Arteriosus

Ruth & Keith, Hanna's Parents
My husband and I are expecting our first baby in May and we found out last week that she has Truncus Arteriosus. We are a Christian family and believe that the Lord can and will heal our daughter. We joined this site to learn all that we can about Truncus Arteriosus.

  • Born: May 7, 2010
  • Diagnosis: Truncus arteriosus is characterized by a large ventricular septal defect over which a large, single great vessel (truncus) arises. It occurs when the two large arteries carrying blood away from the heart don’t form properly and one large artery is present instead. This single great vessel carries blood both to the body and to the lungs. This artery (the truncus) sits over a large opening or hole in the wall between the two pumping chambers (ventricular septal defect).
  • Treatment: I am not sure what the procedure is called but the doctors will go in and repair it right after she is born.
