Daisy

VSD

Photo coming soon!
We found out Daisy had a murmur at her 5 day check-up. We were seen by the pediatric cardiologist the next day. She confirmed that Daisy had a 6mm VSD. She hadn't had any symptoms at that point, so he sent us home and told us to return 1 month. I had so many mixed emotions, but my husband is always optimistic, and kept me in check. My biggest concern was taking home this newborn who had a heart defect. I had no training, and they expected me to go home, make sure she gained 3 ounces/week, and see them in a month. A month seemed like such a long time!

The month actually passed by quickly. I was reassured by my strong daughter who actually gained two pounds in one month! She is so strong! My days were determined by how well she ate, and I didn't want to quit breastfeeding! At the check-up, however, the cardiologist felt she was tachypneic and that she had some congestion around her liver. I was thrown back. He has started her on digoxin and Lasix. My cardiologist says we take each month as it comes. I don't know if she'll need open heart. I'm here to learn more about VSDs and if it is possible for 6 mm VSDs to close on their own.
