Cayla Winease

Tricuspid Atresia, AV Canal Defect, VSD, PFO, B-T Shunt, Bi-Directional Glenn Shunt

Cayla at 8 months old

When I was 8 months pregnant the doctors diagnosed Cayla with AV Canal Defect. Cayla is our first and only little girl. She has 2 older brothers Eric 13 and Lil' David 10. We call her our "oops" baby... Good OOPS...

She had a B-T Shunt put in when she was 3 weeks old. She had surgery on Friday and was released the following Sunday. We couldn't believe she had done so well with this surgery.

Then at 5 months old she had the bi-directional Glenn Shunt surgery. After the surgery she developed a pleural effusion. Cayla went home 1 month after she had the surgery. The very next day she was admitted back into the hospital. The pleural effusion had returned. She stayed an additional 3 months in the hospital.

Cayla is truly our little miracle baby. She has had so many prayers from family and friends. We are all very thankful to God for the time he has given us with her. We hope he continues to bless us with many more days and years with this wonderful little girl.

— Cathy and David, Cayla's Parents (Orlando, Fl)
