Then it happened, and we found we were going to have a son. My fiancée already has 3 boys and 1 daughter, but this would be my first boy. I found out that I had placenta previa at 5 months and had problems, so I ended up on bed rest at 8 months. I was having a c-section and needed and amnio to make sure the baby was developed to come into the world early. It was at this time, that his heart was discovered to be enlarged.
The next day was my c-section and my son was taken straight to NICU, so it was a few hours before I was able to go see him. The nurses took pictures of him to bring to me. It was sad, seeing him all hooked up to machines and tubes. He had to have a cardiac catheterization done with balloon angioplasty that day, as his valve was almost completely blocked. He stayed in NICU for 10 days before coming home.
We had another procedure done when Camron was 2 months old, and just went in again in April, but the valve was still open. When people see him today, they can't believe that he has a heart defect. He is truly my little angel.
October 2006 Update
The photo at the top is from Camron's 2nd Birthday. So far we are still good with not needing any new intervention, but will in the near future.
May 2008 Update
Camron is doing great with regular visits to the cardiologist and no further interventions have been needed so far. Thank you for a wonderful organization with a lot of helpful and hopeful information.
