Brooklyn Marie

Congenital Complete Heart Block

At the five month check up, my doctor couldn't get a good sound on Brooklyn's heart rate, so we went into the ultrasound room and that's when I heard it. I knew that something was wrong even before she said something. So, I started going to a maternal fetal medicine doctor. From there until my delivery, I had weekly check-ups to monitor her heart rate, which were in the low 60s.

They decided I would be ok to have a c-section at 36 weeks. She was in the NICU for 13 days, and Brooklyn had a sign letting everyone know that she was ok, her heart rate was then in 70s.

Brooklyn is now 20 months old, and is now going every 6 months for check ups with her cardiologist. Her latest appointment showed that her heart is starting to get enlarged. So, now we are going to go back in June to see if its still enlarging. If so, we are biting the bullet as the doctor says and having surgery to get Brooklyn a pacemaker.

— Jeff and Jeni, Brooklyn's parents (Indiana)
