VSD with PS, upcoming surgery

Anaya

We are proud parents of a baby girl, who was born 3 weeks early and has been diagnosed with VSD and PS. She is our first child, this seems so overwhelming and confusing. But after discussing the condition with our families, we have discovered that several family members have had murmurs in their childhood. We are hopefully that our daughter will not need surgery to correct her defect, but since she is only 15 weeks old ? our doctor is not sure how to proceed.

January 2005 Update

The doctors have recommended surgery.

November 2005 Update

Anaya had her surgery on January 28, 2005. The surgery was a success, but not with out consequences. After the surgery, Anaya's body was not absorbing the fluid that was used during the surgery and her doctors were afraid that the fluid would cause pressure on her heart. Therefore, her cardiologist, removed the fluid before she was sent home. After a few days at home, she developed a fever and "pus"-like fluid was coming out of her wound site. Anaya was re-admitted into the hospital, where she was diagnosed with a wound and blood infection. We spent 2 weeks in the hospital. Her wound also opened up. Anay's was sent home with an IV to continue her antibiotic regiment. Anaya also developed a keloid scar. She had a second surgery on July 2005, in order to remove 2 wire screws that were holding her breast bone together. And the surgeons tired to correct the keloid scar. This year was the hardest so far. We're hoping Anaya won't need any more surgery. God Bless.
